A so-called revival dancehall band from London made up of hardcore reggae enthusiasts, The Hempolics released this 7” single in 2015! Their songs always incorporate some kind of reference or sampling from vintage reggae, and this time they’ve built the track around the unforgettable intro of Carl Bradley’s “Slipping Into Darkness,” famously produced by Lee Perry. (Not only do they pick great source material, but the way they lift and use it is seriously cool.) Over this backdrop, a DJ with dub-poet-like delivery rides the rhythm, creating a killer tune that calls to mind Massive Attack! The Hempolics have a knack for taking the old and transforming it into something fresh and relevant today — stylish, hip-hop-tinged, and just plain excellent.

彼らの楽曲は毎回何かしら古いレゲエからの引用/サンプリングを施していますが、本作ではリー・ペリーのプロデュースで知られるCarl Bradley「Slipping Into Darkness」の印象的すぎるイントロをサンプリングした(彼らはネタのチョイスもですが、抜き方と活かし方がクール)サウンドに、ダブポエットのようなディージェイがマッシブ・アタックを彷彿とさせるGOODチューン！

古いものを新しく今受け入れられる形に昇華する彼らのサウンドはセンス良く、HIP HOP的で素晴らしいと思いまス。
