The rare groove movement, which ignited in London’s club scene during the 1980s, brought renewed attention to albums like We Can Fall In Love (1976), produced by Teo Macero and arranged by Richard Evans. Along with tracks like Teruo Nakamura’s Unicorn, it gained recognition in Japan as a “reimported” gem. At AWC, we often say, “It’s not just about the title track,” but when it comes to DJ use, this song stands out. In fact, it’s rare to find a track that blends jazz and disco so perfectly. The album version, as you know, features a long intro with guitar cuts and brass, which sounds cool but isn’t ideal for the dance floor. The single version, however, jumps right into the main section after the guitar intro, with a trumpet solo of just the right length—an arrangement that perfectly meets a DJ’s needs.
The B-side, “More Than Yesterday” closes the album with a unique feeling that only Kemeko’s voice could deliver. It’s definitely a great track! That said, if it were up to me, I’d pair it with “Along The Nile”.
