One of the Tatsuro Yamashita unofficial? compilation series released around this time, “Rock'n Funk Tatsu” as the title suggests, handpicks funky tracks with a strong soul/funk vibe.
The album opens with "Funky Flushing" a track that symbolizes the compilation with a rhythm pattern that can be considered one of Yamashita's signature styles. It was sampled by LemKuuja in "Cheesecake" and recently edited by Yung Bae, gaining attention. A4 "Bomber" originally released with alternate A/B sides as a single, follows. A5 "Love Talkin'" was re-edited in 2011 for Onur Engin's "Onur Engin Edits Vol. 5" B1 "Dancer" which features heavy drum breaks, was included in DJ XXXL's "Nippon Breaks & Beats" The early urban mellow track "Solid Slider" (from the "Spacy" album), featuring a stunning horn section by Shigeharu Mukai and Takehiro Murakami, stands out, while B4 "Sparkle" a personal favorite, was sampled by Boo feat. Muro in "Smile In Your Face" The album also includes the Japanese-produced "Hot Shot" influenced by The Isley Brothers, a band Tatsuro was reportedly into at the time, featuring an excellent guitar performance by Kazuo Shiina. This superb compilation contains 10 excellent tracks!
