Released in 1977 under the Leslie Wilson featured credit—who also worked as Love, Peace & Happiness—this album, Behold the Mighty Army, is the 10th release by New Birth.

It opens with the title track, which unfolds from a grand, almost epic introduction into full-blown disco funk, setting the tone perfectly. Highlights include A2 “Your Love Is,” sampled by Royce Da 5'9'' on “Universe (Interlude)” and BA PACE & Benji Socrate$ on “ILLUD MODO,” the LOFT classic A3 “Deeper,” and B3 “Ain’t It Something,” featuring a killer percussive break that feels like a funked-up reimagining of Stevie Wonder’s “I Wish.” A richly varied yet consistently high-quality soul album, and a strong reminder of just how reliable New Birth were at this point in their career.
