Blossom Dearie, often referred to as the Betty Boop of bebop, released her first album on her own label, Daffodil Records (named after the yellow trumpet daffodil beloved by the Welsh and heralding the arrival of spring in Britain) in 1973, titled "Blossom Dearie Sings"

The album was produced by Bob Dorough, and all the tracks are original tunes composed by Dearie herself. The recording features a simple trio setup of drums, bass, and electric piano.

The album opens with "I'm Shadowing You" with lyrics by Johnny Mercer, also known for the version by The Singers Unlimited. Standout tracks include "Baby, You're My Kind" which beautifully exemplifies the art of duet, and "Hey, John" a tribute to John Lennon. The exceptional track "You Have Lived In Autumn" features Martin Kershaw on guitar, while "Flame To Fire" brings a Bossa touch with a groovy twist. In an era where mellow music is highly praised, this album showcases Dearie's unique whispering voice to its fullest. It offers a soothing experience that is quintessentially vocal jazz.
