At that time, Jazz was in a transitional phase towards fusion. This album stands out as Bob James' response to the prevailing sense of stagnation in the jazz scene, driving it forward with his distinct mellow style. It features tracks like the popular sampling source "Snowbird Fantasy" Glover Washington Jr.'s composition "Brighton By The Sea" and the stylish cover of Peaches & Herb's "Reunited" Notably, the album incorporates the then-new Sony Walkman, released in 1979. Also, don’t miss the performance of Hiram Bullock, the guitarist from Sakai, Osaka.

ボブ・ジェームスのデジタル化前夜。アナログ機材では最後の録音となる1980年作で、リーダー作としては8作目にあたるわけですが、"H"は8番目のアルファベット。で、"H"がつく単語と言えばホットドッグ。なるほど...

当時のJAZZはフュージョン過渡期。本作はある意味行き詰った感のあるジャズの風潮どこ吹く風、否、自らが追い風のごとくシーンを牽引したボブ先生のメロウネスを凝縮させたような内容で、サンプリングソースとして人気の冒頭「Snowbird Fantasy」や、グローヴァー・ワシントンJrが楽曲を提供したA3「Brighton By The Sea」, Peaches & Herb「Reunited」カヴァーのラスト等、洒落おつな楽曲を収録。

79年に発売されたSONYの代名詞的家電、ウォークマンを早速題材に取り入れているところも流石で、大阪府堺市出身のギタリスト、ハイラム・ブロックのプレイも聴き逃し厳禁でス。
