Freddie Hubbard ‎– First Light

Freddie Hubbard, one of our shop’s regular featured artists, released his second CTI album in 1971, First Light, featuring string arrangements by Don Sebesky.

Aside from the title track, which was written by Hubbard, the album includes covers such as the Beatles’ “Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey”—with its killer mid-track break also covered by Buddy Rich—and Henry Mancini’s “A Time for Us.” It also features Sebesky’s “Yesterday’s Dreams,” known as a sampling source, and “Lonely Town,” written by Camden & Green, sampled by Souls of Mischief on “Anything Can Happen” and by Aceyalone on “Makeba.”

Incidentally, the album went on to win a Grammy the following year in 1972.

当ショップ常連アーティスト、フレディ・ハバードがストリングス・アレンジにドン・セベスキーを迎えて、CTIからは2枚目となる71年リリース作「ファース・ライト」
収録曲はタイトル曲のみハバードのライティングで、その他はバディ・リッチもカバーしていた、途中のブレイクがキラー過ぎるビートルズ「アンクル・アルバート～ハルセイ提督」やヘンリー・マンシーニ「その日その時」のカバー、サンプリングソースとしても知られたセベスキー作曲のB2「Yesterday's Dreams」, Souls of Mischief「Anything Can Happen」, Aceyalone「Makeba」でサンプリングされたカムデン&グリーン作「Lonely Town」を収録。

因みに本作、翌72年にグラミーを受賞していたりします。
