In the 1970s, Yasunori Soryo, who achieved numerous remarkable feats such as forming Brown Rice with Mariko Takahashi (not the "Momoiro Toiki" singer) in America and obtaining a Musicians Union card, released a solo album "Wings Of Love" in 1977. That same year, he formed Jim Rock Singers with members of the previously mentioned Brown Rice, and this album is their debut.
The album cover features a beautiful woman provocatively sticking out her tongue, and despite being a debut work, it's titled "Goodbye! Goodbye! Goodbye!"—a title that leaves you guessing about its intent. Given the group name Jim Rock Singers, one might expect a rock sound, but when you drop the needle, you're welcomed by a nostalgic world of Japanese soft rock, quite the opposite of the impression the cover gives. My personal opinion after listening to this album is that it might not be a record that garners global acclaim.
To put it in a straightforward manner, it feels like the comforting sensation of eating a salt rice ball made by your mother. Nowadays, more young people can't eat rice balls made by hand (even by their parents), which I find unbelievable. The issue lies with parents who raise children that way and with the children themselves who accept it. While times change, disliking handmade food goes beyond just preference—it's a matter of common sense (worldwide). In an era of onigirazu and character bentos, this may seem outdated, but given that we're talking about listening to records, that's the intention. People only interested in flashy appearances may never appreciate the charm and love of simplicity. Consequently, this album, still unreleased today, remains unappreciated by those who can't eat rice balls (excluding allergies).

見るものを挑発するかの如く"あっかんべ～"をする美人が描かれたジャケット、デビュー作なのにタイトルが「グッドバイ！グッドバイ！グッドバイ！」だったり、レコードを手に取っただけではまるで意図が読めない状態。グループ名がジム･ロック･シンガーズというくらいだからそれは
ROCKなサウンドなのだろうと思い、針を落とせば広がるノスタルジーな和製ソフト・ロックの音世界。ずばりジャケットが放つイメージとは真逆の印象です。本作を聴いた個人的な感想を述べるならば、"世界的に評価されるレコードではないかも"といったとこでしょうか。
上から物言いで恐縮ですが、食べ物で例えるなら、オカンが持たしてくれた塩むすびをパクついたときのなんとも言えないほっこり感とでも言いましょうか。現在では人の手で握られた(親でさえも)おにぎりが食べられない若者が増えてるそうですが、食べれなくても仕方がない子供に育てた親に問題があり、それで良いとしてる本人も問題あり、時代は変われど食べ物の好き嫌いの範疇を超えた、その事実が信じられないのが常識(世界的に)だと思います。オニギラズ、キャラ弁の昨今、このような物言いは時代遅れかもしれませんが、そもそもレコードを聴いている時点でそのつもりですし、派手な見栄えや物事にしか興味が湧かない感覚では、素朴なものだからこその良さや愛おしさは感じ取れないかなと。
