高山厳 ‎– この世には愛がなさすぎる

This is the debut album by Gen Takayama, released in 1975 after his departure from Banban and transition to a solo career!

All tracks are original numbers penned by Takayama himself, with arrangements primarily handled by Yasunori Soryo (except for A5"Asa" and B1"Hitori"). The rhythm section features members of the post-Brown Rice lineup: Shogo Kindaichi on bass, Koichi Ichihara on drums, and Kenji Enatsu on keyboards.

At first listen, the lyrics might seem detached, but they reveal deep personal connections—especially the opening track, which Takayama wrote about his mother, who passed away during his high school years. Highlights include the high-quality pop sound of A2"Sora no Hate", likely among the finest of Soryo's works; the sophisticated Japanese pop sensibility of A3"Ame", reminiscent of Ginji Ito's style; and the pure, unfiltered folk rock tune of B1.

While the album title might suggest a hardened or jaded tone, the music proves otherwise. It’s an underrated gem of Japan’s new music scene, deserving of far greater recognition for its sophistication and emotional depth. A true classic!

75年にバンバンを脱退、ソロに転向した高山厳が同年発表したデビュー作！

収録曲は全て高山厳のペンによるオリジナル・ナンバーで、アレンジをほぼ(A5「朝」, B1「ひとり」以外)惣領泰則が担当。リズムセクションはアフター・ブラウン・ライスの面々(ベース金田一昌吾、ドラムス市原康、キーボード江夏健二)がサポートしています。

一聴第三者のことのようですが、その実彼が高校生のときに亡くなった母親のことを歌った冒頭曲をはじめ、惣領ワークスでも上位であろう上質ポップスのA2「空のはて」, 75年時点でここまで洗練された日本語ポップスが存在していることに驚きを禁じえない、伊藤銀次あたりに通じるセンスのA3「雨」, 混じりっけなしの純潔フォークROCKチューンの前述B1等、タイトルだけ見るとやさぐれていそうなイメージを持ちますが、いまいちアンダーレイテッドな気がしてならない、もっと評価されるべき我が国のニューミュージック名盤でス！
