Guitarist Roland Prince, hailing from Antigua Island in the eastern Caribbean's Lesser Antilles, and known for his work with Elvin Jones's quartet, released his second album "Free Spirit" in 1977.
The opening track "Senorita" is an original tune penned by Al Foster, the drummer on this album, known for "The Night Of The Wolf" This pleasant track features Buster Williams on bass and Joe Farrell, a familiar name on this blog, on flute.
Track A2 is an extended cover of Gilbert O'Sullivan's "Alone Again (Naturally)" stretching to 9 minutes and 50 seconds, about three times the length of the original. B1 "People's Song" and the title track B3 "Free Spirit" are Roland's compositions, while B2 is written by Ed Brandt, a multi-artist and film director who also contributed to Prince's previous album "Color Visions" (1976). All the tracks are great!
