Joe Farrell's fourth album, "Upon This Rock" released in 1974, is a must-have among his CTI period works, and it is perhaps his most popular album as a so-called "sampled" record. The title "Upon This Rock" seems to be a play on words, referring both to a literal "rock" and the genre of music "rock" as suggested by the cover art. Tracks like "I Won't Be Back" (A2) and "Seven Seas" (B2), composed by Joe Beck, who also played guitar on the album, are a direct hit for Jazz DJs—sure to leave them in awe. I believe that even Deodato, a label mate, would be impressed by these groovy tunes.
