Jack McDuff, an organ player who was a prominent figure in the Soul Jazz scene and left behind a vast number of works on Prestige and Atlantic in the 1960s, released his fourth album on Blue Note, "Who Knows What Tomorrow's Gonna Bring" in 1971.
The album consists of original tracks, with all the A-side tracks and B2 "Ya'll Remember Boogie?" written by tuba player Ray Draper, and the rest by McDuff himself. Highlights include the bluesy A3 "Who's Pimpin' Who?" where both McDuff and Draper showcase their vocals, the standout track B1 "Classic Funke" which opens with a powerful drum break and features a classical-style pipe organ intro that was sampled in A Tribe Called Quest's "Go Ahead in the Rain" and the beautifully mellow B3 "Wank's Thang" which is effectively enhanced with vibes. Every track on this album is a fantastic example of Jazz Funk, making it an essential listen for any fan of the genre.
