Scha Ⅾara Parr were formed in 1988 and made their debut in 1990 with “Suchadara Daisakusen.” Meanwhile, in the Kansai area, another crew emerged as a supposed “western counterpart”: Dassen 3, formed in 1989 by the same setup of two MCs and a DJ. Being a Kansai group, they were arguably even more committed to comedy and humor than (early) Schadaraparr, and perhaps because of that, they were somewhat overlooked and underappreciated by the scene. Although they formed only a year later, it took them a full six years to make their record debut. That debut came in 1995 with the album “Bachilka,” released on Major Force and produced by Kan Takagi and Swingin’ Shinco.
On a personal note, I first saw them perform at a school festival hosted by my girlfriend at the time. To be honest, it barely drew any reaction at all—so much so that I wondered why they had even been booked. Then, suddenly, the school’s cheerleaders jumped on stage. Despite almost certainly not knowing the group or the songs, they started dancing, the atmosphere flipped instantly, and the place went wild. I still vividly remember the unusually intense smiles on those cheerleaders’ faces, as if it happened yesterday. Putting the nostalgia aside, the album itself sticks consistently to what you might call “omoro rap”—a Major Force–style sound paired with lyrics infused with humor and wit. Standout tracks include B3 “B-Boy Taisō,” which samples Melvin Bliss’s “Synthetic Substitution” and clearly nods to Ultramagnetic MCs’ “Ego Trippin’,” and B4 “Waratteru Baai Desu Yo,” which uses Black Heat’s “No Time To Burn” and features uncredited appearances by Schadaraparr and others—an undeniably dope cut. A7 “Straight Outta NGK” even sneaks in a vocal sample later made famous through Schadaraparr’s “Gigolo 7.”
And honestly, I sometimes wonder whether Nabeatsu’s famous gag—acting stupid only when the number 3 or its multiples are mentioned—was inspired by this track.
Jokes aside, despite A7 and B4 “Waratteru Baai Desu Yo” being included in Cypress Ueno a.k.a. LEGEND of Densetsu’s Japanese rap mix “LEGEND of FILE MIX,” there has been zero sign of a proper reappraisal in recent years. Still—this is a classic.

MAJOR FORCE的なサウンドに「笑い」のエッセンスを盛り込んだラップを合わせた、所謂オモロ・ラップなスタイルに終始しています。
