Gato Barbieri teams up with South African pianist Dollar Brand (Abdullah Ibrahim) on the 1975 release “Confluence.” Originally recorded in March 1968 in Italy, the album was first issued under the title “Hamba Khale!” (also the title of the A2 track, composed by Dollar Brand) on the Italian labels Togetherness and Durium. It was later reissued in 1974 on Arista (Canada) and on Freedom in the UK, France, and Germany, before getting its U.S. release in 1975 on Arista Freedom — the version featured here! Given that it was recorded in 1968, it naturally reflects the free and spiritual jazz movement that was sweeping the scene at the time. The A-side features compositions by Dollar Brand, while the B-side is made up of Gato’s own works. Sometimes it’s good to enjoy Gato in his freer, more avant-garde mode.

68年というタイミングですから、本作も必然と?当時
ジャズ界を席巻していたフリー/スピリチュアルな内容。前述のようにA面がダラーの作曲、B面がガトーの曲で構成されています。
たまにはフリーキーなガトーでも。
