Tokyo No.1 Soul Set ‎– Triple Barrel

As a member of LB Nation and having celebrated their 20th anniversary alongside Scha Dara Parr in 2010, the release of their first collaboration song "Stardust" already feels nostalgic. Tokyo No.1 Soul Set’s major debut album "Triple Barrel"

Showcases Bikke’s (Kenichi Miyamoto) lyrics, which remain enigmatic (what kind of books does he read?), though the atmosphere they create is enjoyable. What stands out, however, is KAITO (Hiroshi Kawabe)’s sense in track making.

The guitar riff in A1 "Twilight '95 ~ Season of the Sun" samples The Isley Brothers' "Love the One You're With" The original by Stephen Stills of CSN&Y was featured in Free Soul. Incidentally, the noisy part at the beginning uses The Temptations' "I Can't Get Next to You" The intro of A2 "Jive My Revolver" samples LB Nation classic Black Heat’s "Rapid Fire" which was also sampled by Scha Dara Parr, with the guitar riff from Steve Miller Band's "Serenade" A3 "Dancing Mushroom" combines The Lovin' Spoonful's "Fishin' Blues" with what is likely The Five Stairsteps' "Peace Is Gonna Come" B1 "O'Tay" (a coined term possibly combining “OK” and “Stay”) samples Andy Fairweather Low's "8 Ton Crazy" C1 "Elephant Bump" uses Lightnin' Rod's "Sport" also sampled by Jungle Brothers in "Black Is Black" with Kawabe’s distinct extraction style. C2 "Oklahoma Stanbeat" showcases Kawabe’s flair, sampling Willie Hutch's "Brother's Gonna Work It Out" a track Norman Jay often starts his DJ sets with. Their representative song, the single-cut C3 "Romantic Legend" samples Fleetwood Mac's "Keep on Going" D1 "27.8" samples Little Feat's "Kokomo" and Chairmen Of The Board's "All We Need Is Understanding"

ビッケこと宮本謙市のリリックは未だ意味を理解していませんが(一体どんな本を読んでいるんだ?)そこは雰囲気を楽しむとして、驚くのはKAITOこと川辺ヒロシによるトラック・メイキングのセンス。

A1「黄昏'95～太陽の季節」はThe Isley Brothers「Love the One You're with」のギターリフをサンプリング。オリジナルはCSN&Yのステファン・スティルスで、そちらはFREE SOULに取り上げられいます。ちなみに冒頭の騒いでる部分はTemptations「I Can't Get Next to You」を使用。A2「Jive My Revolver」のイントロは以前紹介したスチャダラパーもサンプリングしたLBネイション・クラシックスのBlack Heat「Rapid Fire」にギターリフはSteve Miller Band「Serenade」, A3「ダンシング・マッシュルーム」はThe Lovin' Spoonful「Fishin' Blues」と恐らくThe Five Stairsteps「Peace Is Gonna Come」, 「OK, Stay」を合わせた造語であろうB1「O'Tay」はAndy Fairweather Low「8 Ton Crazy」, C1「Elephant Bump」はJungle Brothers「Black Is Black」でも使われたLightnin' Rod「Sport」ですが、抜き方に川辺先生のセンスを感じます。C2「オクラホマ・スタンビート」も川辺節炸裂で、Norman JayがDJで一発目にかける曲としてもお馴染みのWillie Hutch「Brother's Gonna Work It Out」サンプリング。彼らの代表曲でシングルカットもされたC3「ロマンティック伝説」はFleetwood Mac「Keep on Going」, D1「27.8」はLittle Feat「Kokomo」とChairmen Of The Board「All We Need Is Understanding」をそれぞれサンプリング。あとは確認中です～
