One year after “Long Distance,” this became their second album. It also serves as the soundtrack to the TBS documentary program “Glory of Le Mans 24 Hours – The Record of Dome’s Challenge,” which followed the Japanese racing team Dome in their attempt at Le Mans. Production was once again handled by Yasunori Soryo.
The supporting musicians include familiar names from the Yuji Ohno connection, such as Tsunehide Matsuki on guitar, Yasushi Ichihara on drums, and Shogo Kindaichi on bass. All of the music was composed by Soryo, with lyrics written by Bill Crutchfield, his longtime associate from the Sing Out days. There are plenty of nice moments, including the funky, disco-flavored opener A1 “Money Tree.” But if I had to name the highlight of the album, it would unquestionably be A3 “Race The Sun,” a masterpiece of Japanese Latin fusion that perfectly captures Soryo’s signature style.
