Ohio Players ‎– Honey

At the pinnacle of iconic album covers, Ohio Players' 1975 release "Honey" stands out prominently.

Despite the provocative cover art, the title track offers a refreshing sweet mellow vibe. A2, "Fopp" is a signature Ohio Players number featuring a seductive wah-wah guitar and falsetto vocals, famously sampled by Too Short in "Hard On The Boulevard" and Jay-Z in "Rap Game/Crack Game." A3, "Let's Love" follows the mellow route set by A1, while A4, though only 1:48 in length, is a noteworthy track with its electric piano feel.

The highlight of the album is undoubtedly B1, "Sweet Sticky Thing" an exquisite mellow track that has been featured in FREE SOUL compilations. Additionally, B2, "Love Rollercoaster" stands out as the most popular track for sampling from this album, with numerous examples (which can be listed here). While the album is rich in mellow tunes, the closing track, "Alone," should not be overlooked. Notably, it has been sampled in Assassin's "L'objet" and Devin The Dude's "Don't Wanna Be Alone"

エロジャケの王道ド真ん中、オハイオ・プレイヤーズの75年作「ハニー」

タイトル曲はジャケット・ワークとは裏腹に清涼感漂うスウィート・メロウ。A2「Fopp」は妖しいワウ・ギターとファルセット・ヴォイスのマッチングが如何にも彼ららしいナンバーで、ちなみにToo Short「Hard On The Boulevard」, Jay-Z「Rap Game/Crack Game」でサンプリングされています。A3「Let's Love」はA1路線のメロウでA4は1:48となぜか短いですが、エレピのフィーリング等聴き逃せない好曲。

本作といえばのB1「Sweet Sticky Thing」はFREE SOULにも取り上げられた極上メロウ。そしてサンプリングソースとして本作収録曲の中ではダントツ人気のB2「Love Rollercoaster」(サンプリング例はこちら)

やれメロウだなんだと申しましたが、聴き逃せないのがラスト「Alone」。ちなみにこちらはAssassin「L'objet」, Devin The Dude「Don't Wanna Be Alone」のネタとなっていまス。
