The debut album of the Filipino five-piece band, The D'Swooner's, known as a seminal instructional album in the genre of GS.
The psychedelic vibe of the album cover is irresistible, and the content is truly remarkable. Featuring all covers, with a total of 14 tracks, the album opens with a fantastic rendition of the R&B standard "Hold On, I'm Coming" by Sam & Dave, infused with psychedelic elements. Track two presents their take on the timeless classic "Sunny" a repertoire staple since their formation in 1964. Next is a choice of a boogaloo number, The Fantastic Johnny C.'s "Boo-Ga-Loo Down Broadway" Following that is the unavoidable R&B hit "It's A Man's Man's World" by James Brown and Betty Jean Newsome. Then, they swiftly transition to cover the British R&B band The Foundations' contemporary hit "Baby, Now That I've Found You"
Track six pays homage to their most revered artist, Jimi Hendrix, with "Stone Free." Interestingly, they also perform "Fire" and "Purple Haze"
Track seven brings an unexpected choice with a cover of Procol Harum's "A Whiter Shade Of Pale" likely to elicit some surprised reactions. Moving on to side B, the original track "My Girl" by The Isley Brothers receives a revival treatment, possibly inspired by the white group Human Beinz's cover version that became a hit that year. Notably, the vocals are led by the group's heartthrob drummer, Eddie, aged 18 at the time. Track two presents their rendition of The Temptations' "My Girl" which is said to have sparked the R&B boom in Japan. Tracks three and four cover Eddie Floyd's "Knock On Wood" and Gary Puckett & Union Gap's "Woman, Woman" respectively. The album concludes with Chris Kenner's "Land Of A Thousand Dances" known as "Dance Heaven" in Japanese, and indeed, it lived up to its heavenly reputation.
