Truly embodying the "Typhoon Lady" nickname, Ruriko Ohgami released her solo debut album "Typhoon Lady" in 1977.
Although it was finally reissued on CD in 2009, her intense performance is best captured on LP. The album is structured with side A featuring a blues style typical of Osaka, and side B being mellower (though the title track on side B is quite funky). Thus, the analog format provides a richer experience.
The backing band is Baker's Shop, well-known for their work with Haruko Kuwana. Most of the songwriting is by Ruriko herself, with contributions from Kazumi Nakamura, KURO, and the couple Kyozo Nishioka and his wife. The arrangements are by Tadao Nagamoto. Lyrics for A1 and A2 were penned by Kazumi Nakamura. A3 and A4 feature lyrics by Ruriko. The atmosphere of A3 is similar to A1 and A2, while A4 is the standout blues track of the album. A5 was composed by Itaru Takahashi, known as Mayataru of The Dylan.
Flipping the record to side B, B1 is an essential Japanese rare groove track, written by KURO and Nishioka. B2 is another mellow masterpiece, with lyrics by Yumi Shimizu and music by Ruriko. The title track on B3, also written by the B1 duo, is rhythmic and funky, contrasting with B1. B4 and B5 are again collaborations between Kazumi Nakamura and Ruriko. Listening to it again after a long time, I’m reminded of how great this record is.

ソロ・デビューアルバム「タイフーン・レディ」
2009年にやっとこさCD再発されたようですが、彼女の濡れっぷりはやはりLPサイズでおさえておかなければならないかと。内容もA面が大阪らしいブルースSIDE、B面はメロウSIDE(タイトル曲はファンキーですが)といった具合に構成されております故、アナログのほうが趣があってよろしいかと存じます。
バックは
桑名晴子との仕事でもお馴染みのベーカーズ・ショップが担当、ソング・ライティングはほぼ彼女によるもので、他では中村かづ美、KURO, 西岡恭蔵夫妻等が楽曲及び詞を提供、アレンジは永本忠。A1「嫌われ者の恋」とA2 「Play That Shuffle」の詞は中村かづ美。A3「Country Girl」と A4 「Love Song For You」は詞も留利子さん。A3の雰囲気はA1, A2に近い感じで、A4は本作きってのブルース曲。A5 「ハリウッド」はザ・ディランの魔矢イタルこと高橋イタル作。
B1「Sexy Woman」は説明不要問答無用、不朽のジャパニーズ・レアグルーヴ曲で、KURO&ゾウさん夫妻によるライティング。B2 「ふわり ふわふわ」もメロウ傑作ナンバーで、こちらは清水由美作詞、曲は留利子さん。B3のタイトル曲はB1のペアによるライティング。B1とはうってかわってリズミカル且つファンキー・チューン。B4「時がたてば」 とB5 「Good-bye, Baby, Love」は再び中村かづ美、留利子ペア作。
久しぶりに聴きましたがw改めてええレコードやと思った次第でございます。
