Like Takahashi Masayoshi’s All Of Me, this first best-of album from Yoshitaka-san, Twelve Lines, features selections from his previously released original albums — Wasurerareta Natsu (1976), South Of The Border (1978), Speak Low (1979), Montage (1980), and Silkscreen (1981) — arranged with Side A as the “Urban Side” and Side B as the “Sea Side.” Of course, it includes his signature song “Slow na Boogie ni Shite Kure,” which has been covered by Chemistry and Kazuyoshi Saito. Hiromi Go has also covered “Monroe Walk,” and listening to it again, you can’t help but think, “This is really good!” For me, the personal highlight is the flow from the Latin-flavored urban mellow B4 “Date Line” into B5 “Night Flight,” leading into the final track, Wasurerareta Natsu, which is arguably the best track of all. The album is wonderfully put together — not only a perfect introduction for new listeners, but also a GOOD compilation worth owning even if you already have the original albums. It truly stands out as an excellent album in its own right. Incidentally, there is also a 12 Lines II, which has a slightly different track listing.
