Naoko Akimoto's shocking debut album "Rolling 80's" shook the Japanese jazz scene.
Whether the positive response or the record company's desire to popularize Teen Age Romantic Jazz led to it, her second album "One Night Stand" was released just five months later on June 21.
The production switched from Yasuyuki Shimizu to Masanori Sasaji, with Mariah members Takayuki Hijikata, Morio Watanabe, and Hideo Yamaki continuing to provide backup. The lyrics were translated by Tomoko Aran.
The album continues with all standard numbers, but the arrangements are far more intense, fully showcasing Sasaji's unique style, making it a bizarre and unusual jazz vocal work.
AWC's top recommendation from this album is the cover of "Tennessee Waltz" Masanori Sasaji's arrangement is extraordinary. Additionally, the electric pop-style A5 "Come Rain or Come Shine" and the disco-tuned B2 "Speak Low" have a good atmosphere and seem ideal for sampling!
