Bob James ‎– BJ4

This is the fourth album, titled exactly as it is, released in 1977 and the last one from CTI.

It was self-produced, and of course, engineered by Rudy Van Gelder. The album kicks off with a remake of "Pure Imagination" originally composed by Leslie Bricusse and sung by Anthony Newley, but it has taken on a completely different character, sampled by Rox Anuar in "Geneve's Eleve" and covered by Build An Ark. Track A2, "Where The Wind Blows Free" and track A3, "Tappan Zee" were composed by Bob James. A2 has been sampled by Fabe feat. Neg'Lyrical, Neg'Madnik & Rachid in "Code Noir" A3 is the most popular sampling source on this album, used by Arrested Development in "People Everyday" (Metamorphosis Mix), Common in "Two Scoops of Raisins" Der Wolf in "Gibt's Doch Gar Nicht" Maddoggz in "Vodim Te" G-Unit in "Unconditionally" and in Japan by Zeebra in "Parteechecka" The house scene has also seen Technicolour & Komatic sample it in "Skyline Boulevard"

Track B1 is a cover of Parker McGee's "Nights Are Forever Without You" by England Dan & John Ford Coley, and it's my favorite on this album. Incidentally, it was sampled by J-Live in "Ships Pass" Tracks B2, "Treasure Island" and B3, "El Verano" were composed again by Bob James. B2 has been sampled by DJ Spooky & Organized Konfusion in "Murder By Syntax" Dose One in "As For Bias" and Domo Genesis in "Cashmere" The last track, which I consider the main feature of this album, has been used by Cocoa Brovaz in "Blown Away" and Masta Ace in "NY Confidential"

CTIからは最後で、1977年に発表されたタイトルまんまの通算4作目となるアルバム。
自らのプロデュースで、エンジニアは勿論ルディ・ヴァン・ゲルダー。初っ端はLeslie Bricusse作でAnthony Newleyが歌った「Pure Imagination」をリメイクしていますが、最早別の曲といった様相でRox Anuar「Geneve's Eleve」でサンプリングされ、Build An Arkがカヴァーしています。A2「Where The Wind Blows Free」, 後にレーベル名となるA3「Tappan Zee」はボブ先生の作曲で、A2はFabe feat.
